The thirteenth annual Dancesport for Charities
ballroom dance competition will take place on
December 4th, 2010, at Rameses Shrine Banquet
Centre in Toronto. The proceeds this year will
go to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.
This event showcases the talent of ballroom dancers
ranging in age 6 to 50 plus. The event starts
at 10:30 AM with the children dancing during the
day, and adults dancing in the evening. The couples
will compete in 10 difference dances, Rumba, Samba,
Cha Cha Cha, Paso Doble, Jive, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot,
Quickstep and Viennese Waltz. A silent auction
will also be part of the fund raising, with merchandise
and services donated from the business community,
and manufacturers of dance supplies from around
the world.
This is the twelfth time this event has been held.
Starting in 1998 Jade Trophies and Dance Plus,
two businesses serving the ballroom dance community,
have held a charity competition, picking a different
charity each year. Raising a total of $139,173 for the first 12 years.
Previous
Recipients of the fund raising event have been
the Heart & Stroke Foundation, which received
$8,000, the Kidney Foundation, which received
$21,500 (2 years), the Lions Foundation of Canada
which received $23,900 (2years), the Shriners Childrens'
Hospital which received over $10,000, and $25,400
was raised for Retts Syndrome, a disease that
affects little girls including the daughter of
well-known dance champions Jean-Marc Genereux
and France Mousseau. In 2003 we had our most
successful year, raising $22,500 for Willow, Breast
Cancer Support Services. Last year we raised $9,500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation of Canada.
This years Jade Trophies continues this event
and the funds raised will be used to support the Children's Wish Foundation.
Please join us, as we enjoy the best of competitive
ballroom dancing, and an exciting silent auction,
as we raise funds for this worthy cause. We hope
to raise even more this year - with the help of
the general public and the wonderful ballroom
dancers of Ontario and Quebec.
